Have you considered the enhancements that can be gained with actionable intelligence and real-time situational awareness delivered by integrating Knightscope Autonomous Security Robots (ASRs) and AI into your Physical Security program?  ASRs can help meet or exceed the Joint Commission Hospital Accreditation Standards and potential improvements to patient satisfaction to support your Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Scores.  Healthcare organizations across the US have partnered with Knightscope for many years to make advancements in various critical areas of physical security and in patient satisfaction.  If you haven’t heard, you can read our latest press release here highlighting the accelerated adoption of  such technologies by hospitals and healthcare providers over the past month.

Knightscope is improving the patient experience in a variety of ways, and it is aiding healthcare organizations in maintaining or increasing their HCAHPS scores with the following capabilities:

  • Physical Deterrence – a conspicuous, commanding presence that wards off potentially negative behavior before it happens
  • Automatic Broadcast Messages – ASRs play messages (e.g., “Happy Holidays,” “Good Morning,” “Thank You for Visiting,” etc.) when a person has been detected
  • Brand Enhancement - robot naming contests and naming decals expand “ownership” of the technology
  • Enjoyable automated patrol sounds
  • Fun and customizable robot color and graphics options
  • Seasonal decals for holiday cheer and season’s greetings
  • Improved Safety Posture – patients feel safer and more secure with robots on patrol

The Joint Commission (TJC) - Hospital Accreditation Standards Relating to Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP) states that an “organization is responsible for the security of everyone who enters the hospital, and leaders [should] create and maintain a culture of safety and quality throughout the hospital.” It is Knightscope’s contention that entering a hospital or healthcare facility begins at the parking lot, not the hospital doors, and therefore recommends the following 5-step approach to augmenting your layered security program.

STEP 1 Secure Parking Areas
Provide a powerful 24-hour visual physical security presence for all employees, contractors, vendors, visitors and patients by utilizing multiple K5 Autonomous Security Robots (ASRs) for all parking lots and parking structures.  Posting proper signage throughout the parking areas and on the robot that the area is being monitored enhances overall safety and security for an improved parking experience.  K5s patrolling with strobe effects, patrol sounds and automatic broadcast messages reduce or eliminate auto thefts/break-ins, personal property thefts, catalytic converter thefts, vandalism and vagrant encroachment for many of our healthcare clients.  In addition, the duress button on the K5 immediately notifies on-site security teams of those in need of assistance when pressed by employees or visitors.  Knightscope’s K1 Blue Light Towers, with full wireless functionality and no digging or trenching requirement, add a highly visible and familiar point to access reliable communications that provide comfort away from buildings.

STEP 2 Monitor Lobbies & Emergency Department Main Entrances
K1 ASRs in each of the lobbies and outside of the emergency department main entrance alert you when individuals on your Watchlist are detected using Facial Recognition, Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) or Automatic Signal Detection (for mobile devices).  This further assists in the fulfillment of TJC’s WVP mandate. Broadcast Messages are available on either a time-based schedule or automatically upon People Detection alerts, reinforcing that malicious individuals are being monitored by this cutting-edge technology.  Publicly accessible K1 Blue Light E-Phones and call boxes are compact and allow anyone to call for help when and where it is needed – regardless of power, cell signal, or remote location.

STEP 3 Patrol the Interior
Highly visible technologies elevate the care of everyone in the hospital.  Publicly accessible pedestrian corridors connecting lobbies, public hallways and other common areas are actively patrolled by a K5 or K3.  Automatic Broadcast Messages deliver important messages that help to enhance patient satisfaction as well as strengthen the security posture of the hospital.  And ASRs deliver real time alerts for unauthorized individuals entering restricted areas during prohibited hours directly to your hospital’s security team.  Knightscope’s full line of K1 machines also provide a meaningful supplement to the potentially dangerous false sense of security of a smart phone that can seemingly do anything… until you leave it at home, the battery dies, the phone malfunctions or your carrier has no service.

STEP 4 Force Multiplication
Give your Security Operations Center (SOC) additional eyes, ears, wheels and voice via the Knightscope Security Operations Center (KSOC) user interface.  SOC staff can intervene in security incidents by speaking through a machine or all machines simultaneously with Prerecorded or Custom Broadcast Messages.  They will receive actionable intelligence from ASRs in real time and can stop the machines from patrolling, trigger audible alarms, or speak through the robots using their own voice.  The robots are able to alert SOC operators when and where security incidents are occurring as they happen.

STEP 5 Manage the Workload
Utilizing a team of ASRs makes your hospital a safer and more secure facility and, in turn, gives you, your patients and your staff greater peace of mind.  As a stand-alone security service or by augmenting your current security force, ASRs improve your hospital’s safety profile.  To get even more out of our service, you can upgrade to Knightscope+ and allow us to take some of the workload off of you.  We will take care of monitoring your ASRs remotely on your behalf and allow you to focus more on patient care.
